Bobby's Blankets

One of the founders of the Zone Foundation, Tammy Baer, lost her father to Alzheimer’s Disease in 2022. Her dad’s name was Bobby Calhoun and was a decorated Vietnam veteran who received a Purple Heart. A year after Bobby passed, Tammy received a vision to produce custom, handmade fidget blankets for Alzheimer’s patients like her dad.

Before her vision, Tammy did not know how to sew. She had bought fidget blankets for her dad but had never operated a sewing machine. With her vision, Tammy’s mission was to produce hand-crafted, custom, unique sensory fidget blankets and distribute them to help patients everywhere.

Today, Tammy, along with her mother Faye Calhoun, Bobby’s widow, spends most nights and weekends building Bobby’s Blankets. The first milestone in this journey is to distribute 25 Bobby’s Blankets to the same memory care facility where Bobby Calhoun lived his last days. She did this on Father’s Day 2024.

Alzheimer’s patients aren’t the only ones suffering from neurological diseases and conditions. Bobby’s Blankets also provide soothing care and comfort for those with PTSD, dementia and other brain injuries and trauma.

As the Lord’s hand guides the Zone Foundation, a small sewing space has been leased, and we have part time retired ladies helping produce these fidget blankets.  If you would like to donate so we could continue to purchase supplies, please click here
